The SUMITOMO U101035 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. With a 0.1719 inch (11/64 inch) diameter and a 135-degree split-point angle, this bit delivers accurate starts and clean entry holes without a center punch. The MDW-GS series features a tapered web configuration that reinforces the cutting edge while reducing thrust load. At 2.4016 inches overall length and a flute length of 0.9055 inches, this is a compact, stub-style bit suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and production drilling applications. Installation and use are handled by machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
This drill bit is engineered for use in cast iron and steel workpieces, making it a reliable choice for job shop, production floor, and maintenance machining environments. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard collets, Jacobs-style chucks, and toolholders across common spindle configurations. The 2xD flute-by-diameter ratio and 0.6474 inch maximum drilling depth make it well suited to shallow through-holes and spotting operations in tight-tolerance work. The h8 diameter tolerance supports close-fit hole requirements.
Designed for use in cast iron and steel workpieces. Fits standard straight-bore collets and chucks accepting a 0.1719 inch cylindrical shank. Part of the SUMITOMO MDW-GS series covering the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range.
Secure the shank fully in the toolholder or chuck before operation and verify runout with a dial indicator on precision work. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate for the workpiece material and bit diameter. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use, as solid carbide is brittle and sensitive to impact or side-loading. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use external coolant or cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material.
