The SUMITOMO U101024 is a screw machine length solid carbide drill bit designed for high-productivity drilling in steel and cast iron. At 3.80 mm (0.1495 inches) in diameter, it features a 135-degree web-thinned point that reduces entry force and improves centering accuracy. The DEX multi-layer coating extends tool life in ferrous materials. With an overall length of 2.126 inches and a straight cylindrical shank diameter of 0.1562 inches, this bit is sized for short, rigid setups where runout control matters. It is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC drilling operations, drill presses, and screw machines.
This drill bit is built for drilling steel and cast iron in production environments where short, stiff tooling is required. The screw machine length format keeps the tool close to the spindle, improving rigidity and hole accuracy at higher feed rates. The 2xD flute-to-diameter ratio suits shallow-to-moderate hole depths. Maximum drilling depth is 0.6025 inches (15.30 mm). The regular spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in ferrous workpieces without coolant-through capability, making it compatible with flood coolant or dry cutting setups where external coolant delivery is used.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for screw machine length carbide drill bits in the MDW-GS series, suitable for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines configured for 3.80 mm diameter tooling in steel and cast iron applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully powered down and locked out before tool changes. Secure the straight shank in a precision drill chuck or collet rated for the shank diameter of 0.1562 inches, ensuring full engagement depth to prevent pullout under load. Do not exceed the maximum drilling depth of 0.6025 inches without retracting to clear chips. Inspect the cutting edge and coating condition before each use; carbide is brittle and susceptible to damage from improper handling or side loading.
