The SUMITOMO 5VHY106 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining applications. It measures 13.00 mm (0.5118 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 5.0394 inches and features a 135-degree split-point angle that reduces walking and thrust load at entry. The two-flute design includes a tapered web configuration and two margins for improved hole quality and straightness. Built with a coated finish for extended tool life, this bit is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on production or job-shop equipment.
This drill bit is suited for screw machine length applications where a shorter, more rigid tool profile is required. It is rated for primary workpiece materials including cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. The straight-cylindrical shank (13.00 mm diameter) seats directly in standard collet chucks or drill sleeves without modification. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and a maximum drilling depth of 1.8976 inches make it appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole operations in both CNC and manual machining setups.
Designed for use in screw machine length drilling operations on cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Part of the SUMITOMO MDW-HGS series. Fits standard toolholders and collet chucks accepting a 13.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per applicable safety procedures. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the collet or chuck is torqued to the toolholder manufacturer specification before running. Verify coolant-through passages are clear and coolant supply is active before initiating the cut. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use, as carbide tools can fail without visible pre-failure deformation.
