The SUMITOMO 5VHY008 is a screw machine length drill bit built for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard metals. It is manufactured from solid carbide and features a coated finish for extended tool life in demanding applications. The bit has a 135-degree drill point angle, a straight-cylindrical shank, and a tapered web configuration. At 3.20 mm (0.126 inches) in diameter, it runs 72.00 mm (2.835 inches) overall and delivers a maximum drilling depth of 15.90 mm (0.626 inches). Coolant-through design supports chip evacuation and heat control at depth. Installed by machinists and tool-room technicians in CNC and manual drilling operations.
The 5VHY008 is suited for precision drilling in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Its screw machine length profile makes it a practical choice for short-reach applications where rigidity and accuracy matter. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and two-margin geometry support consistent hole quality in production and maintenance environments. This bit fits standard tool holders accepting a 4.00 mm (0.157 inches) straight shank. It is sold individually and is appropriate for both CNC machining centers and conventional drill presses requiring tight-tolerance holes in ferrous materials.
Designed for use in ferrous workpiece materials including cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. Compatible with tool holders and chucks accepting a 4.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the SUMITOMO MDW-HGS series for screw machine length carbide drills in the 0.1000 to 0.1500 inch diameter range.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tool-room technicians. Secure the shank fully in the tool holder or chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits. Engage coolant-through supply when available to maximize tool life and chip control. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for damage before each use; replace the bit if chipping or wear is visible.
