The SUMITOMO 5V00424 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting applications. It carries a 2.00 mm diameter with a 135-degree split point and a multi-layer TiAlCr/TiSi proprietary coating that extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The overall length is 70.00 mm (2.7559 inches) with a 19.00 mm (0.7480 inch) flute length and a 3 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the MDW-HGS series, this drill is built for shops and field machinists working in steel, stainless steel, and hardened materials where coating integrity and point geometry are critical to hole quality and cycle time.
This drill bit is suited for precision metal cutting operations in industrial and job shop environments. Its coolant-through capability makes it a strong choice for CNC machining centers and automated drilling equipment where internal coolant delivery extends tool life and evacuates chips effectively. Primary workpiece material classifications are P, M, K, and S — covering carbon steels, stainless steels, cast materials, and heat-resistant alloys. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports consistent chip flow in deeper hole applications within the 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm drill size range.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drilling equipment with straight-shank toolholders accepting a 3 mm shank diameter. Rated for primary workpiece material codes P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast materials), and S (heat-resistant alloys) per ISO material classification.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists following standard lockout/tagout procedures before accessing the spindle or toolholder. Verify that the machine spindle and collet or chuck are clean and within tolerance before seating the shank to the full 49.00 mm (1.9291 inch) shank length. Confirm coolant lines are clear and pressure is set per machine specifications before initiating coolant-through operation. Do not use this tool in hand-held drilling applications — it is designed for rigid, machine-guided setups only.
