The SUMITOMO 5KHZW0T-OLD is a replaceable drill tip designed for use with the SMD modular drill system. This solid carbide insert features a 0.8750 inch (22.23 mm) cutting diameter and is manufactured to Grade ACX80, a PVD-applied dual-layer coating of TiAlCr and TiSi that improves wear resistance and thermal stability. The 140-degree included angle and MEL insert geometry suit a wide range of hole-making operations. The tip includes coolant-through capability, directing fluid directly to the cutting edge for improved chip evacuation and heat control. Machining professionals and tool crib specialists handling high-production drilling applications will find this tip a direct-fit replacement for worn or damaged SMD drill inserts.
This replaceable drill tip is suited for universal workpiece material classifications, covering steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and high-temperature alloys (S). It is intended for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses where the SMD modular drill body is already installed. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in manufacturing environments requiring consistent, repeatable hole quality across mixed-material runs.
Designed as a replaceable insert for the SUMITOMO SMD modular drill series. Compatible with universal primary workpiece material codes K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation of replaceable drill tips should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following the drill body manufacturer's assembly instructions. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating the tip. Ensure the tip pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before installing the new tip, as contamination can affect runout and hole quality. Do not exceed the recommended cutting parameters for the grade and coating specified for the selected workpiece material.
