The SUMITOMO 5KHZW0G is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the SMD Series, designed for precision hole-making in a wide range of metallic workpieces. This drill features a 140-degree included point angle and a dual-layer TiAlCr and TiSi coating applied via PVD process, delivering hardness and thermal resistance at the cutting edge. The ACX80 grade solid carbide tip offers consistent performance across universal material groups including cast iron, steel, stainless, and superalloys. Through-coolant capability channels cutting fluid directly to the tip, supporting chip evacuation and extending tool life in demanding applications. This tool is used by machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop environments.
The 5KHZW0G is suited for through-coolant machining centers and CNC drilling applications where repeatable hole quality is required across multiple material types. The replaceable tip design reduces tooling cost by allowing tip exchange without replacing the full drill body. Primary workpiece material classifications include K, M, P, and S, covering cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The MEL insert geometry is optimized for stable entry and reduced thrust force in these material groups.
Designed for use in through-coolant capable machining centers and CNC drilling setups. Compatible with workpiece materials classified under K, M, P, and S groups including cast iron, carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Tip is part of the SUMITOMO SMD Series replaceable tip drill system.
Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and machine is in a safe state before changing or inspecting the replaceable tip. Verify through-coolant passages are clear and coolant pressure is within the machine and toolholder specification before running. Follow the SMD Series assembly procedure for proper tip seating and torque to avoid tip movement during cutting.
