The SUMITOMO 2900W30 is an indexable square-shoulder end mill designed for precision milling in demanding production environments. Built on the WaveMill platform with a WEX toolholder configuration, this cutter accepts AX.T 12350 style inserts and delivers a true 90-degree lead angle for clean, square shoulders on machined workpieces. The 1-1/4 inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1-1/4 inch Weldon flat shank, providing positive rotational drive and secure tool retention at high feed rates. Through-coolant capability channels fluid directly to the cutting zone, extending insert life and improving chip evacuation. Machining professionals in job shops and production facilities rely on this class of toolholder for aggressive side-milling and shoulder-milling operations.
The 2900W30 is suited for milling applications across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum alloy, and other non-ferrous metals. The three-insert cutter body and through-coolant design support both roughing and semi-finishing passes. Its overall length of 4.531 inches and 2.250 inch head length make it appropriate for moderate-reach applications on vertical machining centers and horizontal mills where rigid tooling setups are maintained.
Designed for use with AX.T 12350 style inserts. ISO designation WEX31250EW. Compatible with machines equipped to accept a 1-1/4 inch Weldon flat shank toolholder in standard end mill holders.
Installation should be performed by qualified machining personnel familiar with indexable milling toolholders. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the cutter body. Seat the Weldon flat shank fully into the holder and tighten the set screw against the flat to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify insert seating and screw torque according to the insert manufacturer's guidelines before initiating a cut.
