The SUMITOMO 2000W50 is a steel indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built to the S-STUP toolholder style, it accepts TPGT 63 triangle inserts held in place by a screw-clamp method, providing positive insert location and quick changeover. The bar carries a 93-degree lead angle and a negative rake angle of -10 degrees, geometry suited for finishing and light roughing passes in bored holes. With a 3/8-inch shank diameter and 5-inch overall length, this bar fits compact boring setups and smaller machine spindles used in general machining, job-shop work, and production turning.
This boring bar is sized for applications requiring a minimum bore diameter of 3/8 inch and a maximum bore depth of 1.25 inches, making it appropriate for shallow blind and through-bore work in steel, cast iron, and similar materials. The right-hand cut orientation suits standard machine configurations. It belongs to the Sumi-UFO series and is a non-coolant-through design. Machinists and tooling specialists working in production or prototype environments will find this bar straightforward to set up with standard boring bar holders and turret blocks.
Accepts TPGT 63 triangle inserts with a 3/4-inch inscribed circle and 0.094-inch compatible insert thickness. Insert size code 63 applies. This bar is not compatible with coolant-through tooling setups.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and all spindle motion fully stopped before handling the boring bar or inserts. Secure the shank in a properly sized boring bar holder or turret station rated for 3/8-inch shank tooling and verify tool offset and center height before cutting. Use calibrated torque tools when tightening the screw clamp to manufacturer specification to avoid insert fracture or movement. Inspect the insert and seating pocket for chips or damage at each tool change.
