The SUMITOMO 2000W1B is a steel indexable boring bar designed for internal boring operations on lathes and turning centers. It uses a screw clamp holding method to secure CPGM 2.51.5 diamond-shaped inserts, providing repeatable positioning and quick insert changes. The shank diameter is 0.5 inches, the minimum bore diameter is 0.625 inches, and the overall length is 6 inches. With a 5-degree lead angle and a negative rake angle of -2 degrees, this bar is engineered for controlled chip formation and stable cutting performance in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is intended for installation and use by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job shop environments.
This boring bar is suited for finish and semi-finish boring applications in CNC and manual turning operations where precise hole sizing and surface finish are required. The BSCLO toolholder style is a standard indexable configuration commonly found in both high-volume production shops and general machining environments. The 0.625-inch minimum bore diameter makes it appropriate for smaller-diameter internal features where rigidity and clearance must be balanced. Coolant-through capability is not available on this model, so external coolant application or dry cutting practices should be planned accordingly.
Designed for use with CPGM 2.51.5 diamond-shaped indexable inserts with a 5/16-inch inscribed circle and a compatible insert thickness of 0.094 inches (3/32 inches). Insert holding method is screw type.
This boring bar should be installed and set up by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out before mounting or removing the toolholder or inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the insert screw manufacturer to secure the clamp screw — do not overtighten. Confirm tool overhang is minimized relative to the bore depth to reduce vibration and deflection during cutting.
