The SUMITOMO 1NT5046 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision CNC turning applications. It features a VBGT insert style with a 35-degree diamond shape (V-code), a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, and a 5-degree relief angle. The insert is PVD-coated with TiAlSiN using SUMITOMO's Absotech Bronze proprietary process, providing excellent wear resistance and heat control at the cutting edge. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0078-inch corner radius, this insert is well-suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. It is held by a screw-type clamping method and is right-hand oriented. Licensed machinists and CNC operators handling precision turned components install this insert as part of regular tooling maintenance or material-specific changeovers.
This insert is built for turning powdered metal workpieces, classified under primary workpiece material code S. It belongs to the AC5000S series, which targets difficult-to-machine and abrasion-resistant materials common in aerospace, automotive, and advanced manufacturing environments. The MESI chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during finishing cuts. The insert conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, with an ISO designation of VBGT160402MN-SI, making it compatible with standard VBGT-style insert pockets used across major toolholder platforms.
Designed for use in VBGT-style screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 insert pocket standards. Primary workpiece material is powdered metal (material code S). ISO designation VBGT160402MN-SI confirms fitment in standard VBGT160402 pocket configurations.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians during tooling setup or insert indexing. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the screw-clamp seat to avoid insert rock or seat damage. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before seating a new insert.
