The SUMITOMO 1NT5024 is a DCGT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on non-ferrous metals and superalloys. It features a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 55-degree diamond insert shape, and a 0.0078-inch corner radius with a neutral hand orientation. The insert is coated with TiAlSiN via a PVD process under Sumitomo's proprietary Absotech Bronze designation, providing wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. At 3/32 inch thick and with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, this insert is built for light, high-precision cuts on challenging workpiece materials. Licensed HVAC technicians and machinists in precision metalworking environments rely on inserts in this series for consistent surface finish on difficult-to-machine alloys.
The 1NT5024 is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes where tight tolerances and fine surface finishes are required. Its primary application is in machining non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper, and brass, as well as superalloys including nickel-based and titanium alloys. The EFC chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during finishing passes. The screw-holding method provides secure clamping and consistent indexing on compatible toolholders designed for DCGT insert geometry.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with indexable insert toolholding systems. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid seat damage or insert fracture. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
