The SUMITOMO 1N6C013 is a DCGT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations. Coated with a CVD process in Sumitomo's AC6030M grade, this insert is engineered primarily for machining stainless steel and other difficult-to-cut materials. It features a 55-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and a 7-degree relief angle, which together promote clean shearing action and reduced cutting forces. The MESI chip breaker design controls chip flow across a range of feed rates. At 0.4567 inches in length with a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle, this is a compact insert suited for light-to-medium turning passes where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical priorities for CNC machinists and toolroom operators.
This insert is used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes equipped with compatible DCGT screw-clamp toolholders. Its primary workpiece material classification is M-grade, covering austenitic and ferritic stainless steels. The AC6030M CVD coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and light interrupted cuts on stainless. The neutral hand orientation allows installation in standard DCGT-designated holders without handedness restrictions. Typical applications include finish turning of stainless steel shafts, fittings, and precision components where tight tolerances and consistent surface quality are required.
Designed for use in DCGT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. ISO code DCGT11T304MN-S identifies the insert geometry for cross-referencing with compatible holder systems. Intended primarily for machining stainless steel workpieces in CNC turning applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and contact surfaces for chips or debris before seating to ensure proper support and accurate tool nose positioning.
