The SUMITOMO 1AHD064 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert in the WDXT05 style, designed for use in indexable drilling tool bodies across a wide range of machining applications. Manufactured to the ACK300 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and AlCrN dual coating, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear protection suited for demanding cutting conditions. The parallelogram insert shape features a 5.00 mm (0.1969 inch) inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.0984 inches, and a corner radius of 0.0157 inches with a G chipbreaker. Right-hand orientation is standard. Machinists and tooling technicians install this insert as part of indexable drill assemblies on CNC machining centers and turning centers.
This insert is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes K, M, N, P, and S — meaning it performs across cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous materials, steel, and heat-resistant superalloys. It is suited for production drilling operations in both job shop and high-volume manufacturing environments where consistent hole quality and tool life are priorities. The G chipbreaker geometry supports effective chip control across this broad material range. Insert size code is 05, with a full size designation of 052504.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production insert for WDXT05-style indexable drill tool bodies accepting ACK300-grade carbide inserts with a 5 mm inscribed circle and right-hand orientation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key per the tool body manufacturer's torque specification for the insert clamping screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will fracture under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper seating and runout.
