The SUMITOMO 19T5BPF is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT style, designed for single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Coated with TiAlSiN via a PVD process under the proprietary Absotech Bronze designation, this insert is engineered for performance on non-ferrous metals and superalloys. It features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral cutting hand, a positive rake angle of 8 degrees, and a 7-degree relief angle. The ESU chip breaker geometry supports consistent chip control across a range of cutting conditions. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, precision machining, and general turning applications will find this insert well-suited to demanding material grades.
This insert is intended for use on non-ferrous metals and superalloys, corresponding to workpiece material codes N and S. It fits into standard CCMT screw-clamping toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. The ESU chip breaker makes it suitable for finishing and light roughing passes where controlled chip evacuation and edge consistency matter. Typical applications include turning aluminum alloys, copper alloys, titanium, and nickel-based superalloys in both production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. ANSI code CCMT32.52ESU and ISO code CCMT09T308N-SU identify compatible toolholder pockets per ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for debris or damage before each insert change to maintain proper seating and cutting geometry.
