The SUMITOMO 19T5APL is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries the ANSI designation DNMG432ESU-AC5015S and ISO code DNMG150408N-SU. It features a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral cutting direction and a negative rake angle of 13 degrees. The TiAlSiN coating is applied via PVD process under Sumitomo's Absotech Bronze proprietary designation, providing wear resistance and thermal stability suited to demanding cutting conditions. The ESU chip breaker geometry and AC5015S grade make this insert particularly well matched to powdered metal workpiece materials. Installed by machinists and tooling specialists on production turning equipment.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning powdered metal components, which require a tough, wear-resistant edge with reliable chip control. The DNMG style with screw holding method seats securely in standard DNMG-compatible toolholders. The 55-degree diamond shape allows for profiling and contouring passes as well as straight turning. It is appropriate for use in medium to high production environments where consistent tool life and dimensional accuracy are required. The AC5000S series is suited to applications where PVD-coated carbide is preferred over CVD grades.
Designed for use in standard DNMG-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert. The ANSI designation DNMG432ESU and ISO designation DNMG150408N-SU identify compatible toolholder pockets per ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state. Seat the insert firmly against all pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the pocket and screw threads for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edge prior to use.
