The SUMITOMO 19T5165 is a CNMG432EEX-AC5015S solid carbide turning insert engineered for precision external turning operations. It carries a TiAlSiN PVD coating under SUMITOMO's proprietary Absotech Bronze designation, which delivers hard, wear-resistant cutting edges suited to high-speed finishing and semi-finishing passes. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.5079-inch cutting edge length, and a 0.0313-inch corner radius. With a neutral hand orientation and negative rake geometry, it seats securely via a screw-lock clamping system. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert during routine tooling changes on production turning centers.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece materials classified as non-ferrous metals and superalloys — ISO material group codes N and S. Typical applications include turning aluminum alloys, copper alloys, titanium alloys, and nickel-base superalloys on CNC lathes and turning centers. The EEX chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip flow and reduce built-up edge on these challenging materials. It conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards and carries the ISO code CNMG120408N-EX, making it cross-referenceable within standardized tooling libraries.
Designed for use in CNMG-style screw-lock turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 specifications, with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and clearance code N. Primary workpiece material compatibility is non-ferrous metals and superalloys (ISO material codes N and S).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before changing inserts, confirm the machine is powered down, the spindle is locked, and all motion is stopped per the machine tool's lockout/tagout procedure. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using a calibrated torque wrench. Inspect the insert seat and shim for debris or damage before seating a new insert to prevent premature edge failure.
