The SUMITOMO 19T4WBS is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation TPMT21.51ESU and ISO code TPMT110204N-SU, conforming to both ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle of 8 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle. It is coated with Sumitomo Absotech Platinum finish applied via CVD process, which enhances wear resistance and tool life when cutting steel workpieces. The ESU chip breaker geometry and neutral cutting direction make this insert well suited for finishing and light roughing passes on steel components.
This insert is intended for use in steel turning applications, covering material grades P10 and P20. It is a neutral-hand insert, meaning it is not dedicated to left- or right-hand tool holders, and is compatible with TPMT-style holders that accept pin or screw clamping. Typical applications include external turning of low-alloy and carbon steels on production CNC turning centers in industrial machining environments. The insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in job shop and production settings where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required on steel parts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for TPMT-style tool holders that accept pin or screw clamping with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and 3/32-inch insert thickness. Compatible with material grades P10 and P20 steel workpieces per ISO classification.
This insert is installed and indexed by qualified machinists and CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before handling or indexing the insert. Ensure the tool holder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Follow the tool holder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw or pin — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate.
