The SUMITOMO 19T4APR is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This VNMG-style insert features a 35-degree diamond shape with a negative rake angle of 13 degrees and a neutral hand orientation. The insert carries SUMITOMO's AC8015P grade designation with an Absotech Platinum CVD coating, engineered for extended tool life and wear resistance when machining steel. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches, insert length is 0.6535 inches, insert thickness is 3/16 inches, and the corner radius is 1/64 inches. It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for turning applications on steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material group P. It is suited for P10 and P20 material grades, making it appropriate for general-purpose and semi-finishing operations on carbon steels, alloy steels, and cast steels. The ESU chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across a range of depths of cut and feed rates typical in steel turning. It is used in both high-volume production turning and custom part machining where consistent surface finish and insert life are priorities.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders that accept pin or screw insert holding methods. Compatible with toolholder systems conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards for VNMG 331 insert geometry. Optimized for primary workpiece material group P (steel) at material grades P10 and P20.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully on the toolholder pocket and secure with the appropriate pin or screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and cutting-edge stability.
