The SUMITOMO 19T2226 is a CNMA544 carbide turning insert graded AC4015K, designed for high-wear-resistance to moderate-wear-resistance and toughness applications in cast iron machining. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a 5/8 inch inscribed circle and a 1/16 inch corner radius. The insert carries a CVD-applied Al2O3/TiCN multilayer coating under the proprietary Super FF designation, providing thermal resistance and extended tool life on K-grade workpiece materials. Insert thickness is 0.25 inches with a flat top chip breaker geometry and negative rake and side clearance. This insert is used by CNC machinists and toolroom operators running turning centers and engine lathes.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning operations on cast iron workpieces in production and job-shop environments. The AC4015K grade is positioned for K15 material applications, targeting conditions that range from high-wear to moderate-wear with acceptable toughness. The flat top chip breaker and negative rake geometry are well matched to interrupted and semi-continuous cuts typical in cast iron turning. It is held in the toolholder by pin or screw clamping methods compatible with CNMA-style pockets.
Designed for use in CNMA-style toolholders accepting a 544 ANSI size code insert (ISO size code 160616). Tolerance code M and clearance code N apply. Pin or screw clamping holding methods are required. Hole diameter is 6.35 mm for pin-lock toolholders.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. The machine spindle must be stopped and the toolholder fully de-energized before seating or removing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before clamping to maintain accurate insert seating. Torque the clamping screw or pin to the toolholder manufacturer specification; do not exceed the recommended clamping force to avoid insert fracture.
