The SUMITOMO 19RJW33 is a solid carbide coated turning insert in the CPMT series, designed for external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the ANSI insert code CPMT21.51 and ISO code CPMT060204, with a CVD-applied coating and AC820P grade that delivers high wear resistance with balanced toughness. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry suited to finishing and light machining passes. With a positive rake and positive side clearance, it minimizes cutting forces and reduces heat buildup at the tool-workpiece interface. Screw-type holding keeps the insert securely indexed during the cut.
This insert is intended for finishing and light machining of steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material classification P and K. The ESU chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip formation at light depths of cut and higher feed rates typical of finish-turning operations. It is suitable for use in applications where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. Machinists running production turning cells or toolroom lathes in general metalworking, automotive, and mold-and-die shops will find the AC820P grade a practical choice for steel and gray or ductile cast iron components.
Designed as a screw-lock replacement turning insert for CPMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 insert seating standards. Compatible toolholders must accept a CPMT 21.51 (ISO 060204) insert with an 0.110 inch hole diameter and 3/32 inch insert thickness.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and all axes are at a safe position before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket locating surfaces and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamp load. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for wear or debris before seating a new edge.
