The SUMITOMO 19RJCCS is a CNMG431-ESEW carbide turning insert graded AC820P with an Absotech CVD coating, designed for negative-rake external turning operations. It features an 80-degree diamond shape (insert shape code C) with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a corner radius of 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch). The ESEW chip breaker geometry is engineered for steel finishing and semi-finishing applications, controlling chip flow and reducing cutting forces. The insert is held via clamp and pin method and carries a neutral hand designation, making it adaptable across a range of toolholder configurations. Installed by machinists and CNC operators, this insert is a direct drop-in for compatible CNMG-style toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning steel workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The AC820P grade with CVD Absotech coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and light-interrupted cuts on steel. The ESEW chip breaker is optimized for finishing passes where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are priorities. Typical applications include OD turning of low-alloy and carbon steels on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, with an ISO code of CNMG120404N-SEW.
Designed for use in CNMG-style negative-rake toolholders with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle seat. Secondary workpiece material code P indicates primary suitability for steel. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping style before installation.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed with the machine in a full stop condition with all spindle motion arrested. Use the correct torque wrench or insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp screw - do not over-torque. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips, wear, or damage before seating a new insert. Proper insert seating is critical to achieving dimensional accuracy and preventing premature edge failure.
