The SUMITOMO 19RJAPR is a CVD-coated solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI insert code VNMG331 and ISO code VNMG160404, featuring a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation. The AC820P grade delivers high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance with controlled toughness, making it well suited for finishing and light machining passes. The ESU chip breaker geometry promotes clean chip evacuation at lighter depths of cut. At 0.0156 inches corner radius and a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, this insert offers fine edge geometry for tight-tolerance turning work.
This insert is engineered for turning steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. It is applied in finishing and light machining operations where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. The AC820P grade is positioned within material grades C5A, C6, C7, and C8, covering a broad range of steel and cast iron cutting conditions. Typical installation environments include production turning on horizontal and vertical CNC lathes using standard VNMG-style toolholders with clamp or pin holding methods. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry suits this insert for rigid, stable setups.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for VNMG331-style toolholders using clamp or pin holding methods. Compatible with toolholder systems accepting ANSI insert code VNMG331 or ISO insert code VNMG160404. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and verify clamp or pin engagement before resuming cuts. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for clamping screws; do not overtighten, as this can chip the carbide substrate.
