The SUMITOMO 19RJ475 is a solid carbide turning insert with an AC820P CVD-coated grade, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. This TPMT-style insert features a 60-degree triangular shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius, making it well suited for light to medium machining passes. The positive rake geometry and positive side clearance reduce cutting forces and support clean chip evacuation. The AC820P grade delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, targeting steel and cast iron workpieces. Screw-style insert holding keeps seating repeatable during tool changes.
This insert is used in turning centers and engine lathes for finish to semi-finish cuts in steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K) materials. The ENF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light and medium machining depths, making it a practical choice for close-tolerance turning where surface finish and dimensional control matter. Machinists running production or job-shop turning in steel bar stock, castings, or near-net-shape forgings will find this insert appropriate for those applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for TPMT-series toolholders using screw-clamped triangular inserts. ANSI size code 331, ISO size code 160404, ISO code TPMT160404N-SF. Compatible with material grades C5A, C6, C7, and C8 toolholder classifications.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidance and verify runout after indexing before resuming cuts.
