The SUMITOMO 19RJ334 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG style, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ANSI code CNMG431EGU and ISO code CNMG120404N-GU, this insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake angle of 16 degrees. The AC820P grade substrate is finished with a PVD-applied ZX proprietary coating, enhancing wear resistance and edge integrity during interrupted and continuous turning operations. The EGU chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation. Installed by machinists and CNC operators, this insert fits standard CNMG-style toolholders secured by clamp and pin holding methods.
This insert is suited for turning applications on steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material group P and material grades C2 and C3. The EGU chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and semi-finishing passes where chip control and surface finish consistency are priorities. Typical install scenarios include production turning on CNC lathes in job shops and manufacturing facilities. The neutral hand designation allows use in both right-hand and left-hand toolholder configurations that accept CNMG geometry inserts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for CNC toolholders accepting CNMG-style inserts with clamp and pin holding. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry, insert size code 431, and clearance code N before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a full stop, locked-out condition. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screws specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten clamp fasteners by hand estimation. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's guidelines and applicable shop safety standards when handling carbide inserts, as edges are sharp.
