The SUMITOMO 19RJ156 is a DNMG431EGU-style indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with an Al2O3 (aluminum oxide) CVD coating and designated grade AC820P. It carries a 55-degree diamond shape (D), a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake angle of 7 degrees with clearance code N and tolerance code M. The insert measures 0.6102 inches in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius. The EGU chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip formation during turning operations. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 19RJ156 is designed for turning operations where the primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material group P, secondary workpiece material code P). The AC820P grade with CVD-applied Al2O3 coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability suited to medium finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel. The DNMG form factor and clamp-plus-pin holding method make it compatible with standard DNMG-style toolholders commonly used on CNC turning centers and manual lathes. The DN series designation and ISO code DNMG150404N-GU confirm its dimensional classification under both ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
Designed for use in DNMG-style indexable toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp-and-pin retention. ISO code DNMG150404N-GU confirms compatibility with holders dimensioned to that ISO 13399 classification. Primary application is steel turning (ISO P workpiece group).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret or tool post is locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct clamp and pin hardware specified for DNMG-style pockets to maintain proper seating and torque. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, wear, or deformation before seating a new insert, as a damaged pocket will affect dimensional accuracy and insert life.
