The SUMITOMO 19RBAFI is a solid carbide coated turning insert in the CNMG432EMU geometry with AC830P grade designation. This insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake and negative side clearance, making it suited for stable, high-load turning operations. The CVD coating process applied to the AC830P grade delivers a balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness, targeting steel and stainless steel workpiece materials. With an inscribed circle of 0.5000 inches, a corner radius of 0.0313 inches, and an insert thickness of 0.1875 inches, this insert is installed by machinists and tooling technicians on CNC lathes and turning centers where consistent material removal and edge integrity are required.
This insert is designed for light to medium machining applications on steel (ISO material group P) and stainless steel (ISO material group M). The EMU chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across both material families, making it a practical choice for production turning where workpiece materials may vary. It is compatible with standard CNMG-style insert toolholders that accept a clamp or pin holding method and a 0.2030-inch hole diameter. The CN series designation aligns with common toolholder systems designed for negative-rake CNMG inserts.
Designed for use in CNMG-style negative-rake turning toolholders that accept a 0.2030-inch hole diameter with clamp or pin clamping. ANSI insert code CNMG432, ISO insert code CNMG120408. Meets ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. Material grades C5, C5A, and C6 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following standard CNC lathe lockout and toolchange procedures. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not overtighten the clamping screw or pin. Inspect the insert seat and chip pocket for debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
