The SUMITOMO 19RB486 is a solid carbide turning insert with grade AC830P and chip breaker designation ENF, designed for external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. This insert uses a triangular (T) shape with a 60-degree included angle, an 11-degree relief angle, and a positive rake geometry that promotes clean chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. The CVD-coated carbide substrate delivers a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited to interrupted and continuous cuts. At 0.6496 inches long with a 0.375-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0313-inch corner radius, it fits standard TPMR-style toolholders using a clamp-style holding method. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production environments install this insert for light to medium machining passes.
This insert is engineered for primary workpiece materials including steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), and superalloys. The ENF chip breaker geometry supports light machining and medium machining operations, making it appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. It carries material grade designations of C5, C5A, and C6, covering a broad range of steel and stainless alloy families encountered in general machining, aerospace component work, and precision part production.
Designed for use in TPMR-series clamp-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert. Compatible with ANSI insert code TPMR322 and ISO insert code TPMR160308. Suitable for steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), and superalloy workpiece materials per the grade and chip breaker specifications stated by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians using the appropriate TPMR clamp-style toolholder; confirm the toolholder is rated for the inscribed circle size and insert thickness before seating. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris that could affect seating and indexing accuracy. Handle carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
