The SUMITOMO 19P7338 is a solid carbide coated turning insert in the WNMG style, designed for single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the AC8025P manufacturer grade and is produced via CVD coating for wear resistance on steel workpieces. The insert features an 80-degree trigon shape with a neutral hand orientation and a 3/64-inch corner radius, making it suitable for general-purpose external and internal turning passes. At 0.3425 inches in length with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch thickness, this insert fits standard WNMG toolholders and is appropriate for production environments where consistent tool life on steel is a priority.
This insert is intended for turning steel workpieces in production and job-shop environments. Its EGU chip breaker geometry is suited for medium to roughing cuts on carbon steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous materials. It is held in the toolholder using a clamp and pin method, consistent with standard negative-rake WNMG insert seats. The TN series designation aligns it with SUMITOMO tooling systems configured for steel-cutting applications. It conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, and its ISO code is WNMG080412N-GU.
Designed for use in standard WNMG-style negative-rake toolholders. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P). Compatible with turning centers and CNC lathes equipped with clamp-and-pin insert retention systems accepting WNMG 433 size inserts.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamp pin. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear at each insert change to maintain accurate positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
