The SUMITOMO 19HW359 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation CNMG431EUP and ISO designation CNMG120404N-UP, featuring an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation. The insert is coated with a PVD-applied TiAlN and AlCrN dual-layer coating under SUMITOMO's proprietary Super ZX designation, offering strong wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. With a 0.0156-inch corner radius and a positive rake angle of 10 degrees, the EUP chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during finishing and semi-finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in standard CNMG-compatible toolholders secured by clamp and pin holding methods.
This insert is suited for turning applications in stainless steel and superalloy workpiece materials, corresponding to material codes M and S. The EUP chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage the tough, stringy chips common in these material groups. Typical use cases include continuous and light interrupted cuts in aerospace, medical, and industrial component machining where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. The neutral hand designation allows use in both right-hand and left-hand toolholder configurations that accept CNMG-style inserts.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept CNMG431 inserts with clamp and pin holding. Primary workpiece compatibility is stainless steel and superalloy materials per ANSI and ISO 13399 classification codes M and S.
This insert is installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and torque the clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert seat and pocket for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
