The SUMITOMO 19HW170 is a DNMG432EEX-geometry solid carbide turning insert finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN and AlCrN dual coating under Sumitomo's proprietary Super ZX designation. The insert carries a neutral hand orientation, a 55-degree diamond shape, a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0313-inch (1/32 inch) corner radius. Designed for negative rake operation with a rake angle of 16 degrees, it is targeted at high-performance turning applications where tool life and edge stability in difficult-to-machine materials are the primary concerns. Machinists and CNC toolroom professionals select this insert for production turning on lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for turning operations on stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium workpiece materials — material group codes M and S per ISO classification. The EEX chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlling chip flow in these tough, work-hardening alloys. It conforms to ANSI designation DNMG432EEX and ISO 13399 code DNMG150408N-EX, making it a recognized standard geometry for shops running tooling catalogs from either system. Typical applications include external finish and semi-finish turning on CNC lathes in aerospace, medical, and oil and gas component production.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for toolholders accepting DNMG432 geometry inserts with clamp and pin holding method, conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 standard seat specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing inserts. Use a calibrated torque wrench on the clamp screw and follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excess clamping force. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamp for wear or carbide debris before installing a new insert.
