The SUMITOMO 19HM334 is a CNMG-style carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Coated with TiAlN and AlCrN via a PVD process under the proprietary Super ZX designation, this insert delivers thermal and wear resistance suited to demanding cutting conditions. The 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation provides versatility across a range of turning operations. A 0.0156-inch corner radius and positive rake angle of 7 degrees help reduce cutting forces. Qualified CNMG machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert as a direct drop-in for compatible toolholders.
The 19HM334 is engineered for turning applications where stainless steel is a primary or secondary workpiece material, making it well suited to job shops, aerospace component machining, and precision manufacturing environments. The EGU chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation during light-to-medium roughing and finishing passes. It conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, with an ISO code of CNMG120404N-GU, ensuring broad toolholder compatibility across ISO-compliant setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp or pin holding methods. Conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards; ISO code CNMG120404N-GU. Verified secondary workpiece material compatibility includes stainless steel (ISO material code M).
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert, as foreign material will affect insert alignment and can cause premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw; do not exceed the recommended clamp force.
