The SUMITOMO 19DXW37 is a cermet-coated indexable turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting applications in CNC and manual lathe operations. Conforming to ANSI code CPMT21.51ESU and ISO code CPMT060204N-SU, this insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation. The T2000Z manufacturer grade cermet substrate is applied via PVD coating with a proprietary ZX coating designation, delivering wear resistance and edge stability when turning steel workpieces. The insert measures 0.252 inches in length with a 1/4-inch (0.2500 inch) inscribed circle, making it a compact, high-precision option for finishing and semi-finishing cuts on steel.
The 19DXW37 is suited for use in steel turning operations, classified under primary workpiece material code P. The ESU chip breaker geometry and positive rake angle of 8 degrees promote efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. Typical applications include external and internal turning of carbon steel, alloy steel, and hardened steel components in production machining environments. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC setup technicians working in job shops and manufacturing facilities. It uses a screw-type insert holding method compatible with CP series toolholders.
Designed for use with CP series screw-clamping toolholders that accept CPMT-style inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle. Conforms to ANSI code CPMT21.51ESU and ISO code CPMT060204N-SU for cross-reference with compatible tooling systems meeting ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all energy sources are locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure without overtightening. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before seating the new insert to maintain edge accuracy and prevent premature failure.
