The SUMITOMO 196D366 is a DNMG431EUP carbide turning insert in grade AC6040M, designed for negative rake, negative clearance turning operations on stainless steel and similar ISO M-group workpiece materials. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch insert thickness, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. A PVD coating process delivers the AC6040M grade's characteristic balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness, making it well suited for cuts where tool life stability and edge integrity matter. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC turning center operators in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments.
The EUP chip breaker geometry is rated for roughing and medium machining operations, particularly on stainless steel. The neutral hand orientation allows use on standard toolholders configured for DNMG-style inserts. The ISO insert code is DNMG150404N-UP, and the ANSI insert code is DNMG431. This insert is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units. It is appropriate for external turning applications where consistent chip control and edge toughness on difficult-to-machine materials are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard stocking insert for DNMG431 negative-rake turning toolholders accepting clamp and pin insert holding methods. Compatible toolholder specifications should reference ANSI insert code DNMG431 or ISO insert code DNMG150404.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamp or pin to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before each installation to maintain proper seating and cutting geometry.
