The SUMITOMO 196CBPE is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the ANSI designation CCMT32.51ESU and the ISO equivalent CCMT09T304N-SU, with a manufacturer grade of AC6030M applied via a CVD coating process. The 80-degree diamond insert shape (Insert Shape Code C) provides a strong cutting edge suited to general turning and finishing passes. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch corner radius, this insert delivers controlled, repeatable cuts. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is optimized for cutting stainless steel (ISO workpiece material code M), making it a practical choice for applications involving austenitic or duplex grades common in aerospace, food processing, and industrial fabrication. The ESU chip breaker geometry manages chip evacuation during continuous turning operations. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible positioning in standard CCMT-compatible toolholders. The screw-clamping holding method provides secure insert retention under interrupted and continuous cutting conditions. Sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard CCMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with screw clamping. Compatible with toolholder systems conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards for CCMT insert geometry.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification without overtightening, which can crack the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and tool life.
