The SUMITOMO 194ACCW is a cermet-grade indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 55-degree diamond (D) insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake geometry, which provides strong cutting-edge support during interrupted and continuous cuts. The manufacturer grade is T1500Z with a PVD-applied coating for enhanced wear resistance and thermal stability. With a 1/2 inch inscribed circle and a 1/32 inch corner radius, this insert is suited for medium to finishing passes on steel workpieces. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and industrial maintenance mechanics, as well as machining professionals, install and index these inserts in production turning operations.
This insert is intended for use on steel workpieces, corresponding to the P-code primary workpiece material classification. It fits into DNMX-style toolholders and is held in place via clamp and pin method. The ESEW chip breaker geometry is configured for steel turning applications across a range of depths of cut and feed rates typical in production and job-shop environments. The ANSI code for this insert is DNMX432ESEW and the ISO equivalent code is DNMX150408N-SEW, making cross-referencing with standard toolholder catalogs straightforward.

Indexable inserts should be installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians with the machine in a full stop and energy-isolated state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque wrench or insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp screw — do not overtighten, as this can crack the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for proper insert orientation and chip breaker alignment.
