The SUMITOMO 194AAPK is a cermet-grade turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ANSI code DNMG431ESU and ISO code DNMG150404N-SU, it features a 55-degree diamond insert shape with a negative rake geometry and a neutral hand orientation. The T1500Z cermet substrate receives a PVD coating for enhanced surface hardness and thermal resistance. With a 1/2 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch corner radius, this insert is built for finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances and surface quality are priorities. It is held in place by clamp and pin methods, suiting standard DNMG toolholders.
This insert is rated primarily for steel workpiece materials (ISO material code P), making it a direct fit for general turning of carbon steels, alloy steels, and similar ferrous materials in production and job-shop environments. The ESU chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip flow during light-to-moderate depth-of-pass operations. Typical applications include OD turning, facing, and light profiling on parts where dimensional consistency and finish quality are critical. Installation is performed by licensed machining professionals on properly maintained CNC or manual lathes with compatible DNMG toolholders.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard DNMG-style toolholders that accept a 55-degree diamond insert with clamp and pin holding. Verify toolholder seat geometry and insert pocket dimensions before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist using the appropriate torx or hex key for the clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert seat and shim for chips or damage before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and prevent premature edge failure. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer recommended depth of cut or feed rate for this insert size and geometry.
