The SUMITOMO 16JYDSD is a PCBN (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in demanding industrial machining applications. Carrying the BN7000 manufacturer grade, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The coated carbide-style geometry delivers high wear-resistance when cutting cast iron and superalloys at elevated speeds. With a positive rake and positive side clearance, the insert geometry reduces cutting forces and supports controlled chip formation. It is installed via screw-holding method and is suited for CNC turning centers operated by qualified machinists and tooling technicians.
This insert is intended for turning operations on cast iron, hard materials, and superalloys where high wear-resistance is the primary requirement. The BN7000 grade also provides moderate toughness for special and super alloy workpieces. With a neutral hand orientation, it fits standard CCGA-style toolholders used in both roughing and finishing passes on CNC lathes. The ANSI insert code is CCGA32.52 and the ISO insert code is CCGA09T308, making cross-referencing to compatible toolholder systems straightforward for toolroom and shop floor personnel.
Designed for use in CCGA-style screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code CCGA32.52 and ISO insert code CCGA09T308. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron, hard materials, and superalloys as designated by material codes K and S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians using the screw-holding method standard for CCGA insert pockets. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw to avoid insert movement or pocket damage during cutting.
