The SUMITOMO 16JRW6P is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert engineered for high-speed and hard-turning applications in metalworking. It carries the ANSI code NUCCGA32.51 and ISO code NU-CCGW09T304, and uses an uncoated BN2000 grade PCBN material. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (C-code), a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius. With a positive rake geometry and a 7-degree relief angle, it is designed to reduce cutting forces and maintain edge stability when machining hard or abrasive workpiece materials. A screw-holding method secures the insert in compatible toolholders. This insert is handled and installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists.
This insert is intended for turning operations on cast iron, hardened steel, and superalloy workpieces, corresponding to primary workpiece material codes H, K, and S. It is well-suited to finish and semi-finish turning passes where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are required. The single cutting edge and G-tolerance class contribute to dimensional accuracy in demanding production and job-shop environments. The BN2000 grade is selected for its wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting temperatures typical of hard-turning operations.
Designed for use in screw-clamp toolholders accepting CCGA/CCGW-style inserts in the CCG series. Compatible workpiece materials include cast iron (K), hardened steel (H), and superalloys (S) per the stated primary workpiece material codes.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert seat and shim for wear or debris before installing a new insert to maintain accurate tool geometry.
