The SUMITOMO 16JRDAA is a PCBN (Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride) turning insert designed for precision material removal on hard and difficult-to-machine workpieces. Formed in a 60-degree triangle shape with a positive rake angle and an 11-degree relief angle, this insert delivers controlled cutting geometry suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches, the corner radius is 0.0313 inches (1/32 inch), and the insert thickness is 0.125 inches. It carries the ANSI code NUTPGA322 and ISO code NU-TPGW160308. The insert is uncoated and features a single cutting edge, held by screw clamping. It is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production environments.
This insert is rated for primary use on hard materials (ISO material code H), making it appropriate for hardened steels, hard cast iron, and similarly difficult workpieces in turning operations. The BN2000 manufacturer grade is suited to continuous and light interrupted cuts on hardened workpieces where carbide inserts reach their limits. It fits toolholders conforming to the NUTPGA insert pocket style. The chip breaker designation is A. This insert is used in CNC lathes and turning centers across automotive, die and mold, and general precision machining applications.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or damage before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
