The SUMITOMO 16JRCVF is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for precision machining of hardened steel and other hard-to-machine ferrous materials. It carries the BN2000 manufacturer grade and ships uncoated, with a 55-degree diamond insert shape and a 0.5-inch inscribed circle. The corner radius measures 0.03125 inches, and insert thickness is 0.1875 inches. The negative rake geometry and NUDNMA style deliver stable, predictable chip control in demanding interrupted and continuous turning applications. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC turning-center operators working in production and job-shop environments.
The 16JRCVF is suited for external and internal turning operations on hardened steel workpieces, particularly in applications requiring tight dimensional tolerances and fine surface finishes. Its single cutting edge and clamp-and-pin holding method make it compatible with standard NUDNMA insert pockets on rigid turning toolholders. The ANSI code is NUDNMA432 and the ISO code is NU-DNMA150408, covering both domestic and international toolholder systems. Typical applications include finishing passes on hardened bearing components, tool steel parts, and case-hardened shafts.
Designed for use in NUDNMA-style insert pockets on rigid CNC turning toolholders conforming to ANSI NUDNMA432 or ISO NU-DNMA150408 specifications. The clamp-and-pin holding method (Clearance Code N, Tolerance Code M) is required for correct seating and retention.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct clamp and retaining pin for the NUDNMA pocket to ensure the insert seats fully and does not rock under cutting load. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can affect edge geometry and dimensional accuracy.
