The SUMITOMO 16JRCVC is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for precision hard-turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured under the ANSI code NUDNMA430 and ISO code NU-DNMA150401, this insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a negative rake geometry and a relief angle of 0 degrees. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert thickness is 0.1875 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0039 inches. It is uncoated and carries the BN2000 manufacturer grade. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert when hard turning hardened steels, cast irons, and other difficult-to-machine materials to achieve tight tolerances and fine surface finishes.
This insert is suited for hard turning operations in both production and job-shop environments where conventional carbide tooling is insufficient. The NUDNMA430 style is applied in finish and semi-finish turning of hardened ferrous workpieces, sintered metals, and other hard materials. Its single cutting edge geometry and clamp-plus-pin holding method make it well-suited for rigid setups requiring consistent chip control. The chip breaker designation is A, and the maximum depth of cut is 0.015 inches, confirming its role in light, precision finishing cuts rather than heavy roughing operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-format PCBN turning insert conforming to ANSI NUDNMA430 and ISO NU-DNMA150401 specifications, compatible with toolholders designed for the NU-DNMA insert style with a 0.2031-inch hole diameter and clamp-plus-pin retention.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists and tool crib technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before installing. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamp screw to avoid insert cracking or improper seating.
