The SUMITOMO 16HUAES is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for precision machining of hardened ferrous metals and difficult-to-machine alloys. The insert features a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating applied via PVD process, which improves surface hardness and extends tool life in high-speed finishing applications. It carries manufacturer grade BNC160 and belongs to Series C. With an 80-degree diamond insert shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert delivers consistent edge geometry for tight-tolerance turning operations. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 16HUAES is suited for turning operations on hardened steels and secondary workpiece materials classified as steel (H code). The insert style is 2NC-CCGA with a positive rake, 7-degree relief angle, and clearance code C, making it appropriate for finishing passes where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical. It is compatible with screw-held insert toolholders that accept the CCGA insert form. The ISO code for this insert is 2NC-CCGW09T308 and it meets ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
Designed for use in screw-held CCGA-style insert toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, Series C insert with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter. Compatible with tooling systems referencing ISO code 2NC-CCGW09T308. Intended for turning operations on hardened steel workpieces.
This insert is secured using a screw-held clamping method and should be installed and indexed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before changing inserts. PCBN inserts are brittle — avoid impact loading, interrupted cuts beyond the insert's rated depth, and contact with hard jaw edges during handling. Verify insert seating and shim condition before initiating a cut.
