The SUMITOMO 16HQCCT is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert engineered for precision machining of non-ferrous materials. Built to the NF-VNMX331 insert style, it features a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. The DA1000 grade PCD construction provides the cutting-edge hardness needed to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish on aluminum, copper, brass, and similar workpiece materials. A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and chip breaker geometry support efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this insert in indexable turning toolholders for OD turning and facing operations where insert life and surface finish are critical.
This insert is intended for turning applications on non-ferrous metals in both production and job-shop environments. The VNMX-style geometry fits compatible indexable toolholders designed for the V-style insert shape with a clamp-and-pin holding method. The 35-degree included angle suits finishing and semi-finishing passes where a sharp, precise cutting edge is required. The 3/16-inch insert thickness and 0.150-inch hole diameter are standard dimensions within the Series V family, making toolholder selection straightforward for shops already running compatible setups.
Designed for use in indexable turning toolholders that accept V-style (35-degree diamond) inserts with a clamp-and-pin holding method, conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 insert geometry standards for the NF-VNMX series.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following standard indexable insert changeover procedures. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque driver or clamp screw tool as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as PCD inserts are brittle and susceptible to edge chipping from mechanical shock. Inspect the toolholder pocket and locating pin for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
