The SUMITOMO 16DTAET is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for precision machining of hardened ferrous materials and interrupted cuts where conventional carbide tooling falls short. This insert carries a PVD-applied Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating over the PCBN substrate, adding surface hardness and wear resistance. It features a 55-degree diamond shape (ANSI shape code D), a positive rake geometry, and a BNC200 manufacturer grade. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0078-inch corner radius, it is sized for moderate material removal in finishing and semi-finishing turning operations. CNC machinists and toolroom operators working with hardened steels and hard-turning applications are the primary installers of this insert.}
The 16DTAET is suited for hard turning applications on hardened steel workpieces, particularly in CNC lathe operations where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. It fits into DCGA-style insert pockets and is held in place by a screw-clamp holding method. The 2NC-DCGA insert style and Series D designation make it compatible with toolholders designed to the same seating geometry. Secondary workpiece material classification is steel (code H), confirming its suitability for hardened steel turning. This insert conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, and its ISO code is 2NC-DCGW11T302.}
Designed for use in DCGA-style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting a Series D, 3/8-inch inscribed circle diamond insert. ISO equivalent designation is 2NC-DCGW11T302. Suited for hardened steel (secondary workpiece material code H) turning applications on CNC lathes.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key for the clamp screw and tighten to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as PCBN substrates are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating and pocket cleanliness before resuming cuts.
