The SUMITOMO 16CDW5T is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for high-speed machining of non-ferrous metals and aluminum alloys. Manufactured to the DA2200 grade, this insert delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations where surface quality and tool life are priorities. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. It carries a bright, uncoated finish and is held in place via a screw-lock method. Installation Notes

CNC machinists and tooling technicians install PCD turning inserts. Before indexing or replacing inserts, power down and lock out the machine spindle following facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver for the screw-lock fastener — do not overtighten or use impact tools on insert screws. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
