The SUMITOMO 16CDBCX is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert engineered for precision machining of non-ferrous metals. Built to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, this insert carries the NF-DCMX style designation with a 55-degree diamond shape and a positive rake geometry. The manufacturer grade is DA2200, and the insert ships uncoated. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 1/32 inch corner radius, it is sized for finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge sharpness and dimensional accuracy are critical. Machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments rely on PCD inserts like this one for extended tool life on aluminum, copper, brass, and similar non-ferrous workpieces.
This insert is intended for turning applications on non-ferrous metals and similar materials where conventional carbide inserts wear quickly. The positive rake angle reduces cutting forces, making it well suited for light to medium depth-of-cut operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The screw-type insert holding method provides secure clamping and repeatable indexing. Typical users include machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC programmers working in aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing environments where tight tolerances on soft or abrasive non-ferrous materials are required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit turning insert for toolholders accepting NF-DCMX style inserts with ANSI code NFDCMX32.52 and ISO code NF-DCMT11T308.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with indexable insert toolholders. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing any insert. Use the correct torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert seat and pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
