The SUMITOMO 16CDBCM is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for high-performance machining of non-ferrous metals and aluminum. Manufactured to the DA2200 grade, this uncoated insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) V-shape with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 1/32 inch corner radius. The PCD insert material delivers high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions, making it a reliable choice for production turning operations where tool life and surface finish consistency matter. It conforms to ANSI insert code VNMX332 and ISO insert code VNMX160408, allowing straightforward toolholder selection in standard V-pocket systems.
This insert is intended for CNC lathe and turning center applications involving non-ferrous workpiece materials, including aluminum alloys, copper, brass, and similar materials. Its positive rake geometry and negative side clearance are suited for finish and semi-finish turning passes where chip control and surface integrity are priorities. The VNMX insert style is a common format used in production shops running high-volume non-ferrous turning operations. Installation requires a compatible V-pocket toolholder using clamp and pin holding methods, consistent with the VNMX insert family specification.
Designed for use in V-pocket turning toolholders compatible with ANSI VNMX332 or ISO VNMX160408 insert geometry using clamp and pin holding methods. Intended for non-ferrous metal workpiece materials per ISO material code N.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or insert clamp screw driver to secure the clamp and pin holding system per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing the new insert to ensure proper seating and edge alignment.
