The SUMITOMO 16CDBCK is a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision machining of non-ferrous metals. Built to the NF-VNMX insert style with a 35-degree diamond shape, it delivers a positive rake geometry and a tight tolerance code M fit. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.3750 inches decimal), with an insert thickness of 3/16 inches (0.1875 inches). The corner radius is 0.0078 inches, suited for fine-finishing passes on aluminum, copper, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, this insert is installed by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals in turning center applications requiring tight dimensional control.
This insert is intended for use on non-ferrous metal workpieces in CNC turning applications where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. The PCD grade DA2200 and uncoated surface are optimized for high-speed turning of aluminum, brass, and similar materials. The clamp and pin holding method provides rigid, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders. The X chip breaker geometry aids chip control in continuous turning passes. It is suited for production turning environments as well as precision finishing operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and direct-fit insert for toolholders accepting NF-VNMX style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, clamp and pin holding method, and clearance code N. Compatible with systems referencing ANSI code NFVNMX330.5 or ISO code NF-VNMX160402.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tool-and-die technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and power is isolated before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamp and pin holding method is properly engaged before resuming operation. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and toolholder manufacturer torque recommendations for the clamp screw.
