The SUMITOMO 16CDBCD is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision material removal on non-ferrous metals and other difficult-to-machine workpieces. This insert features a 55-degree diamond shape (DNMX style) with a positive rake geometry, delivering clean shear angles and reduced cutting forces. The 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thickness, and 1/32-inch corner radius make it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where surface quality and tool life are the primary concerns. Manufactured to grade DA2200 with an uncoated PCD cutting edge, it is installed by machinists and tooling technicians on CNC turning centers and manual lathes.
This insert is used in turning operations on non-ferrous materials including aluminum alloys, copper, brass, and composite materials. It is appropriate for both production shop and job-shop environments where tight tolerances and long tool life are required. The NF-DNMX insert style supports clamp and pin holding methods, making it compatible with standard DNMX-style toolholders commonly found in CNC turning applications. It is held to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, supporting interoperability with modern tooling management systems.
Designed for use in DNMX-style turning toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert retention. Compatible with ANSI code NFDNMX432 and ISO code NF-DNMX150408 toolholders. Intended for primary use on non-ferrous metal workpieces per material grade code N.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of debris before clamping. Use the correct torque driver for the clamp screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Follow your facility's tooling change procedures and applicable machine safety standards when handling PCD inserts, as edges are extremely sharp.
